Addressing the Needs of Migrants in Pakistan
Pakistan remains a significant refugee-hosting nation, currently home to millions of Afghan nationals with varying legal statuses. The evolving political and security situation in Afghanistan has led to increased cross-border movements, placing vulnerable Afghan migrants in precarious situations with limited access to systematic humanitarian aid.
As the National Protection Officer, you will play a crucial role in understanding their needs, monitoring protection risks, and contributing to IOM's efforts to ensure their safety and well-being.

Your Role as the National Protection Officer:
  1. Under the guidance of the Programme Coordinator (Protection) and the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, you will be instrumental in implementing protection monitoring and analysis activities. Your responsibilities will include:

Implementing Protection Monitoring: Supporting field protection staff in collecting crucial protection information and data through various methods like household surveys, Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with Afghan nationals and other vulnerable individuals.
  3. Developing Data Collection Tools: Leading the drafting, reviewing, and regularly updating protection monitoring data collection instruments in consultation with the Protection Officer, ensuring their relevance and effectiveness.
  4. Conducting Protection Analysis:Leading and supporting the development of timely Protection Analysis reports, documents, and briefers that highlight key protection trends and emerging issues.
  5. Enhancing Knowledge Sharing: Contributing to a deeper understanding of protection dynamics within IOM Pakistan by developing and disseminating a Policy Tracker and a monthly Protection Bulletin.
  6. Capacity Building: Conducting training sessions for IOM and Implementing Partner staff on essential topics such as data collection methodologies, data ethics and confidentiality, qualitative and quantitative research tools, and protection monitoring approaches.
  7. Data Analysis:Contributing to the analysis of data gathered through protection monitoring activities to identify key trends and inform programmatic responses.
  8. Field Monitoring:Conducting field visits across different provinces to oversee data collection processes, identify best practices, and address challenges encountered on the ground.
  9. Contextual Understanding: Maintaining an in-depth and current understanding of protection risks, community dynamics, and displacement patterns affecting various communities monitored by IOM, including Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders, undocumented Afghan nationals, and host communities.
  10. External Engagement: Preparing and delivering presentations and talking points based on IOM's protection monitoring findings in relevant external meetings and forums.
  11. Stakeholder Liaison:In coordination with the Protection Officer, liaising with external stakeholders and representing IOM in relevant meetings and fora to present and discuss critical protection trends and issues.
  12. Other Assigned Duties:Undertaking additional tasks as required to support the overall protection objectives of IOM Pakistan.
